How to Choose Web Hosting and a Domain

Start with the domain, not the theme

Your domain is the address people type and the name they remember after a referral. Register it early, even if the website launches weeks later. You do not need to overthink the perfect .com, but you should avoid names that are hard to spell on a phone call or easy to confuse with a competitor.

Domain checklist

• Prefer short, pronounceable names over clever misspellings.
• Check matching social handles before you commit.
• Turn on auto-renew so a credit card expiry does not kill your email and site.
• Use WHOIS privacy where eligible so your home address is not public.
• Keep login details in a password manager, not a sticky note.

Managed WordPress hosting

Choose managed WordPress when your site runs on WordPress and you want the host to handle updates, backups, staging, and SSL. This is the default for many service business sites I build: marketing pages, blogs, and lead forms without custom server admin work.

cPanel web hosting

cPanel hosting is the flexible classic option: multiple websites, email accounts on your domain, databases, and one-click app installs. Pick this when you need professional email (@yourcompany.com), several small sites on one bill, or apps that are not WordPress-only.

VPS hosting

VPS gives you dedicated CPU, RAM, and storage with root or admin access. Move here when shared hosting struggles under traffic, when you run a heavy WooCommerce catalog, or when you need custom software the shared environment cannot run.

Most founders do not need VPS on day one. Start lean, measure load times and server response, then upgrade when metrics and revenue justify it. VPS options are listed alongside other products.

How hosting ties into a redesign
